Can PU foam toys be washed with water?

There are differing opinions regarding whether PU materials can be washed with water.

There are differing opinions regarding whether PU materials can be washed with water. Some believe PU materials cannot be washed with water, while others suggest they can be washed under certain conditions, provided the temperature does not exceed 40°C (104°F). To ensure PU items remain undamaged, it is advisable to follow a more conservative cleaning approach.

Below are recommended cleaning steps for PU items:

‌Dusting‌: Gently wipe the PU surface with a soft cloth or a slightly damp soft cloth to remove dust and debris. For stubborn stains, use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub them away.

Moistening and Cleaning: Prepare a clean soft cloth or sponge, dip it into diluted neutral detergent (avoid using cleaners containing bleach or strong acids/alkalis), then gently wipe the PU surface. Ensure the cloth or sponge remains moderately damp to prevent excessive moisture causing deformation.

Rinsing and Drying:

Thoroughly rinse the detergent off the PU surface with clean water, ensuring no residue remains. Then, place the item in a cool, well-ventilated area to air dry naturally. Avoid direct sunlight or high-temperature drying.

During cleaning, please note the following:

Avoid using bleach or strong acidic/alkaline cleaners, as they may damage the PU surface.

Clean gently to prevent excessive force from damaging the coating.

Avoid direct sunlight during drying to prevent the PU material from hardening or fading.

Additionally, if stubborn stains cannot be removed, it is recommended to take the item to a professional dry cleaner. We hope these suggestions prove helpful!
